Well done to all the boys and schools that participated and a special thank you must go to Clifton College for hosting the event. April 2018 – Ashton Park Sports Partnership Central Venue Girls Football Tournament (Week 3)

After a successful couple of weeks, the girls knew that they were close to sealing a top 4 finish. Our first game, was a hard fought 0-0 draw against Cheddar Grove. The girls had to dig deep and battle hard. We then played Headley Park, who put up a strong fight in their 1-0 defeat against us. With one more game to go, we knew that a win would guarantee us a spot in the final. Our last match was against Holymead, who themselves remained undefeated. In a tightly fought match, we managed to grab a goal and win 1-0, cementing our place in the final against Cheddar Grove.

After playing against them earlier, the team knew that this wasn’t going to be an easy game and that they were in for a tough match. The game remained 0-0 at full time so it went into extra time. Still the deadlock could not be broken. Until a minute before the end, we scored and won the game 1-0, making us champions of South Bristol.

The girls will now be playing at Ashton Gate on the 22nd May. If you wish to come and support, then please do.

Mr Hanson

April 2018 – Ashton Park Sports Partnership Central Venue Girls Football Tournament (Week 1/2)

After a fantastic first week, the girls went unbeaten, winning all four games. This put them in to the top division with 7 other schools.

Coming in to the second week, the girls were feeling positive about their football. It was a scorching day, but the girls still put on a fantastic performance, again going unbeaten winning all four games without conceding a single goal. This was down to some fantastic teamwork and defending by the team alongside some clinical finishing down the other end.
The results for week 2 are as follows;
WTL 1 – 0 St Peters
WTL 1 – 0 Ashton Vale
WTL 2 – 0 Ilminster B
WTL 6 – 0 Waycroft
The girls will have one more week to decide whether they go to cross city finals at Ashton Gate in May.

November 2017 – WTLA 0-1 Air-Balloon Hill

It was a very frustrating game because we just couldn’t score. We had loads of chances and hit the crossbar and post about 5 times. Unfortunately, they only had a few chances, but made it count.

The best moment of the game was probably the last 30 seconds. In that time we hit the post twice. It was annoying and hard to believe.

Quadkids Competition

West Town Lane Wanderers have been preparing for this event for a number of weeks, Mr Brown and Mrs Roe prepared two teams to enter the event. All of our children from both teams produced a number of amazing performances in a number of events which consisted of Standing long jump, 600 metre race, howler throw and a 60 metre sprint. A number of our children produced personal bests on a scorching hot day, our “A team” left the event finishing in Bronze position and out “B team” achieved a very respectable 8th place.

Well done guys, and a big thank you to Mr Brown and Mrs Roe.

Our Tag Rugby players took part in a tournament this morning. Well done to the team- no medals, but great playing!

West Town Lane Girls 10 – 0 Hedley Park Girls

The girl’s 5/6 football team played against Headley Park Primary School on Friday 10th March. It was the school’s first game against a competitive Headley Park. The girls have been working hard in training and for many of them, it was their first ever football match. The girls were excellent and won 10-0. Goals from Tenat (6) Izzy (3) and Sophie (1) made the difference. It was an all round superb performance.

Year 3/4 Inter Schools Sports Partnership Annual Football Tournament

A huge congratulations to our Year 3/4 football A team who narrowly lost 2-1 in the Ashton Park Sports Partnership Central Venue League final, the boys played fantastically well over the two weeks and remained unbeaten achieving a total 40 points out of a possible 40 making them group winners. They managed to progress to the final against a strong Holymead outfit, unfortunately the boys fell short at the final hurdle loosing 2-1.  A mention must also go to the B team who also performed extremely well and just missed out on top 5 place. Myself and Mr Dyer are extremely proud of the children and are very excited at the prospect moving forward. Well Done!

Ashton Park Sports Partnership X-Country  2016

A number of children who attend West Town Lane Wanderers Running Club were selected to attend Ashton Park’s cross country running event. The event was hosted by Ashton Park School and children from Years 5 and 6 proudly represented the school. It was the second time the school has entered this event and all the children performed exceptionally well. Especially impressive were the Year 6 girls teams who finished 2nd overall in their event, and a special mention must to go Lucy Hayes who finished 3rd overall in the Year 6 Girls event where she competed against a large and experienced field of runners.

A number of our children have been selected to represent South Bristol at the annual X-Country Event competing against other counties.

A special thank you must go to Mr Brown and Mrs Roe who hold the running club to allow us the opportunity to compete at these competitions.

Tag Rugby – October 2016

As part of the School Sports Partnership, the Academy entered the annual Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament at Broadplain RFC. This gave a number of our children an opportunity to explore a sport that they have never participated in. The children’s performances and attitude towards the competition were fantastic, they produced some amazing performances and results gradually improved as the weeks passed.

As a result of the success had during this tournament the school have recently teamed up with Bristol Imperial RFC to offer the children an exciting opportunity to participate in an after school tag rugby club.

Our amazing sports winners!
