Welcome to West Town Lane Academy. We are a 660 place Primary Academy taking children from the ages of 3 to 11 years. We believe that the learning journey is an adventure, and we are a proud Rights Respecting School.
WHY WEST TOWN LANE?
Our school is unique in many ways. Pupils who attend WTLA leave as well-rounded individuals, having fulfilled their academic potential and with excellent social skills. Pupils at our school have access to incredible grounds and outdoor spaces which are used to enhance our broad and balanced curriculum. Our curriculum is designed to ensure continuity and progression throughout the children’s learning journey. Consequently, knowledge (including a rich vocabulary) and skills are well embedded in order for the children to make good progress. At every opportunity the curriculum promotes independent learning and encourages our children to follow lines of enquiry.
The curriculum has been tailored to suit the needs of our pupils in a variety of ways. The children are regularly consulted in terms of the content of the curriculum and our staff are highly skilled in linking the requirements of the National Curriculum to those projects selected. To enable them to fully understand key concepts we use our locality wherever possible to help ensure experiences are relevant to our pupils, making learning easier to digest and understand. We then build upon this knowledge by expanding learning to the wider world. Our curriculum develops global citizens who are prepared for life in the 21st century.
We have a highly skilled staff team who strive for academic success in a nurturing environment meeting the needs of individuals. We build on children’s previous knowledge and scaffold their learning. Pupils explore the knowledge and skills of the curriculum through a multi-sensory approach. Children then have the tools they need to challenge themselves. Pupils will leave West Town Lane Academy with a breadth of experience, prepared for the next step in their learning adventure.
‘Teachers know their pupils strengths and weaknesses well and have high expectations for them’. Ofsted 2019
‘Staff provide a consistent model of courtesy and consideration which sets a positive tone. They are unwaveringly patient and firm to help pupils understand right and wrong and how to show respect for others and themselves.’ Ofsted 2019
West Town Lane Academy is strongly committed to protecting and safeguarding children, and expects all staff, parents and volunteers to embrace this commitment.
